Just like other game tables, there are few air hockey rules you have to respect if you really want to enjoy the game. I am not talking about the real rule and regulation air hockey table players experience during professional tournaments, I am talking about basic rules that keep the game interesting when you are playing with your friends. We all know that hobby players know different air hockey rules and to avoid any confusion I want to share with you 20 basic air hockey rules you can hang on the wall of your game room.
The reason why I called them basic rules is simple. They cover every part of the match from the beginning to the end and they are simple to understand. Those rules are part of the real rule and regulation rulebook so they aren’t invented by a random bunch of friends in the basement so you will see the logic in every rule.
- Before the match starts to flip a coin and the one who guessed chooses the side of the table.
- The „face-off“ round is how you start the game. The puck is in the center and both players can come an inch away from the puck. On the count of 3, start fighting for the puck and attack your opponent’s goal.
- Only one puck is allowed on the playing field during the match.
- The player who first scores 7 goals wins.
- You have 10 seconds to continue the match once the goal is scored.
- You don’t have to stand on your side of the table, but it is a smart move if you want to defend your goal.
- You can only hit the puck if it is on your side of the playing field. Once you get the puck you have 7 seconds to return it (attack the opponent).
- You mustn’t place your striker on the puck, it is considered a foul. Once you do that, you lose the puck.
- You mustn’t touch the puck with anything but the striker. If you do that, you lose the puck. The only situation when you can touch the puck is when you pull it out of the goal.
- If you hit the puck and it flies off the table, the puck goes to your opponent.
- If the puck enters and exits a goal it is not considered as a score.
- Do not curse during the air hockey match.
- Do not break or vandalize any part of the table and equipment.
- Clean the table when you are finished and leave everything in order.
- Respect the game and your opponent and you will enjoy a good air hockey match.
